Paperwork made simple

What documents do I need to scrap my car?

The honest answer: not much. Most people overthink this. Here's what you actually need — and what to do if something's missing.

V5C logbook

The main bit of paperwork. It proves the car is yours to scrap. Bring it along on collection if you can.

Proof of ID

A driving licence or a recent utility bill is usually enough. We just need to know we're paying the right person.

If your V5C is missing

Don't worry — it's not a dealbreaker. Give us a call and we'll talk you through what to do.

DVLA notification

Once we collect the car, you let the DVLA know it's been scrapped. We'll explain exactly what to send and where.

Scrap car paperwork – common questions

What if I've lost the V5C?

Most of the time we can still help. You can also order a replacement V5C from the DVLA for a small fee. Give us a call before you do anything — we'll let you know what's easiest.

Do I need a Certificate of Destruction?

Yes. Once the car has been scrapped at an Authorised Treatment Facility, you'll receive a Certificate of Destruction (CoD). That's your proof and the DVLA's.

How do I tell the DVLA?

Fill in the 'sold, transferred or scrapped' section of your V5C and send the relevant slip to the DVLA. We'll point you to the right bit on the day.

Is there a cost to me for scrapping the car?

No. Collection is free, and you get paid for the car on the day. There's no fee from us.

Can someone else scrap the car for me?

Yes, as long as they have permission from the registered keeper. We may need a quick word with the keeper to confirm.
